The Chrysler New Yorker is a luxury automobile produced by the Chrysler Corporation for over 50 years. Manufacturing of the flagship model began in 1940, however the trim level name “New York Special” and “New Yorker” appeared as early as 1938. After 56 years of production, the Chrysler New Yorker was discontinued in 1996, making its mark as the longest-running American car name plate.

While both stylistic and mechanical changes were made to the New Yorker from one generation to the next, for the most part the model remained true to its luxury styling. In 1956 the Chrysler New Yorker gained a new mesh grille, leather seats, PowerFlite selector and was upgraded to a 6.4 L V8 engine with 280 HP.

This 1956 Chrysler New Yorker St. Regis Coupe is a lovely example of the extravagant styling of 50’s automobiles.
