1972 Volkswagen Baja Beetle Champion S.E.
One Owner from New. Fully Documented Low, Low Miles.
This 1972 Limited Edition Baja Beetle Champion S.E. was one of only 1,000 produced in 1972 to commemorate the Baja off-road race success in the Mexican 1000 from 1967-1971. Rare and desirable, this Volkswagen Baja is finished in special edition “Marathon Metallic” (metallic blue 96M) paint, black ‘Baja’ side racing stripes, special edition sports wheels, and Baja Champion emblem on the passenger side glove box.
Purchased new on May 23rd, 1972 by its first and only owner, this Baja has a strong documented history and has been loved and well-maintained for over 40 years. During the four decades in its owner’s care this Baja has been serviced accordingly and as a result, runs and drives smoothly. Maintenance for the Baja includes a carburetor replacement in 2011, new battery in 2009, a new rear windshield, new spark plugs, a fan belt replacement as well as other small repairs. Although some original parts have been replaced, the owner has kept all of the original components of the vehicle, which have been boxed and stored. This car also includes the original Volkswagen Owner’s Manual, Warranty Certificate, Vehicle Purchase Order and other original maintenance documents. Even the ad in the paper which attracted the buyer to the car has been retained. The factory paint code tag is still intact in the storage space under the hood, along with the original factory jack and tool roll. Total mileage is only 80,674.
Mechanically, the Baja is in great condition. It starts and runs easily and reliable. The interior is in excellent condition, and the upholstery and headliner show very well. Garaged since new, you are unlikely to find such a rare car in such incredible condition.
