In the late 60’s and early 70’s, when the typical large Japanese road bike from Honda , Suzuki, and Kawasaki had engines formatted in either 4 cylinder or 3 cylinder configurations, Yamaha chose to copy the prevailing British choice of engine design, producing the 650 cc vertical twin, without the leakage and unreliability associated with the British products.
This is an early 2nd generation “standard” model with the disc brake front brake, more effective than the original model with the drum brake.
