Lot 411- 1963 Studebaker Avanti

The Avanti was launched in April 1962 as a brilliant flash from the
once proud Studebaker-Packard it eas described as America’s only 4
passenger personal luxury Coupe. It had a Raymond Loewy styled
fiberglass body, V8 engine and standard disk brakes. Although well
received, the Avanti could not alone turn the tide at the South Bend
works, and the end came for Studebaker and it’s Avanti in December 1993
after only 1,600 Avanti’s had been made compared with some 23,000
Corvettes were made in the same period. The design has soldiered on with
various attempts to revive Avanti, however, none have lived up to the
original promise.
