In 1921, the Model T dominated auto sales, and Olds decided it must fight back by coming up with a competitor in the lower-priced battleground. In addition to its more luxurious six- and eight-cylinder, it offered up the 43A, equipped with 224 cubic-inch side-valve four-cylinder engine.

It opened the already prestigious Oldsmobile marque to the entry-level buyer. It far outsold Olds’ upmarket models, with a total of more than 28,000 Model 43As sold in a two-year run in 1921 and 22.

The 43A came in several configurations, but the four-door touring car, like this example, was the most popular.
