SS Edmund Fitzgerald, a 729 ft. long cargo ship, was built in 1958 and is one of the most famous of modern day Great Lakes shipwrecks. For 17 years, Edmund Fitzgerald carried taconite iron ore from mines near Duluth, Minnesota, to iron works in Detroit, Toledo, and other Great Lakes ports. On November 10, 1975, during a violent storm off Whitefish Point in Lake Superior, she broke apart and sank taking all 29 crewmen with her.
This beautiful Edmund Fitzgerald ship model represents the beautiful ship and her untoward tale. It is mounted on a solid wood base and ready to display in your home or office. These 100% handcrafted models are built from scratch using the ship's photographs, drawings, and original plans. The model is built to scale with top quality wood such as teak and mahogany and have a hollow superstructure and hull. She is crafted individually using plank-on-frame construction method similar to the building of the actual ship. Each model requires hundreds of hours to finish and must go through a demanding quality control process before leaving the workshop.
