Lot #184 - 1921 Oldsmobile Tourer

$0.00

VIN: OLD1357921
In 1921, the Model T dominated auto sales, and Olds decided it must fight back by coming up with a competitor in the lower-priced battleground. So in addition to its more luxurious six- and eight-cylinder offerings, it offered up the 43A, equipped with 224 cubic-inch side-valve four-cylinder engine.

It opened the already prestigious Oldsmobile marque to the entry-level buyer, and far outsold Olds’ upmarket models, with a total  of more than 28,000 Model 43As sold in a two-year run in 1921 and 22.

The 43A came in several configurations, but the four-door touring car, like this example, was the most popular.

This car is resplendent in red and black livery with wood-spoke wheels and black upholstery. The pleasing lines  evoke style and luxury, not “entry-level.”

A survivor from a glorious era when automotive innovations came fast and furious, this 105 -year-old specimen retains the rakish charm that made it a bestseller. Who will get to enjoy the second century of this iconic Oldsmobile?
